"heferyezen"
Co-op member Austin Rood's home brew competition winning, classic hefe, but with a good portion of rye, fermented with the authentic, style-defining yeast -- spicy, refreshing, nourishing, picnicy.

Poured from a crowler into a weizen glass. Pours a hazy, medium golden amber with a three finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of wheat, banana, lemon and a touch of rye. Flavor is wheat malt with a little graininess, lemon, banana rye; rye tartness in the finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Well this delivers exactly what it says; a hefeweizen with an overall classical flavor profile, but with distinct rye grain flavor and tartness. The banana in the aroma was some of the most distinct I've encountered in this style, but is not as dominant in the flavor, which leans to rye. Not sure the rye improves the basic taste of the style, but it is interesting and refreshing. I'm not generally a tart beer fan, but I've generally liked rye beers and this is one that worked for me. Great name joining the brewery theme with one of the hefe classic flavor component.
