Farmhouse Double IPA hopped with an absurd amount of Nelson Sauvin hops.

Considering these times of foamy barley lacking brews, this pour didn't come off too badly. It all started with a pint can being emptied into a clear glass liter mug. At room temperature, the liquid produced only a reasonable white head that seems to be enduring. Beneath it is a murky dirty blond colored ale, as opaque as something this color can get. The aroma is inviting. There's plenty of starchiness, including reminders of oatmeal, biscuits and bread. Also, there's a touch of earthy hops that fill out the bouquet. The taste is a very pleasantly complex one. There's malty sweetness, sharp citrusy hops, a mild taste of alcohol and even a little smokiness that somehow fits in. The body is rich and smooth enough to carry all the various tastes, without making the overall too sweet or sticky. Farmhouse is a term usually associated with Saisons, but there really isn't much about this that compares with characteristics in that category. Maybe the perceived smokiness is the difference maker. This seems like a modern hazy AIPA and it's a pretty good one.

Clear coming out of the glass, then settles into a semi-translucent dark yellow. Loads of head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is mostly floral hops. Nice, but just a bit underwhelming relative to what I was expecting. Taste is interesting. While I can't pick up any tastes traditionally associated with the very broad "farmhouse" style, it's contributing to a different taste and feel vs. a typical DIPA. Notably, it's smoothing it out for me a bit, and in a good way. I'm not a big IPA drinker, with one of the reasons being they make me thirsty, and I don't typically prefer to drink things that make me thirsty vs. satiating my thirst. Anyway, I like that the "farmhouse" element of this seems to make this smoother going down, yet without creating a thin feel to the beer. Good beer.

Canned for Magnify's 6th Anniversary; the first time in five years. Canned on 5/18/2021 and poured into a Magnify tulip glass. It pours an opaque, bright golden orange with almost a finger of fluffy, milk-white head and spotty lacing. On the nose there is bready yeast with a hint of Belgian funk, lite citrus, and floral hops. The taste opens with a tangerine sweetness balanced by tart lemon and grapefruit and white wine grape from the generous use of Nelson Sauvin hops. The malt in the background provides some additional sweetness. And the farmhouse influence is obvious; it provides just enough funk to make the taste unusual. The mouth feel is surprisingly lite and crisp for the 8% ABV. Overall, it's been a long time since I first had this beer on draught at the brewery and I'm enjoying the canned version immensely. I hope Magnify doesn't wait so long to brew it again.

Another beer from Magnify (without a date on bottom of the can) that I picked up in a trade a few months back but took a while to get to. I like the "Whoa" beers as they feature a single hop and obviously, this one showcased Nelson Sauvin abundantly. It's not overkill as this was much smoother than I anticipated but it's hoppy enough to want to look up some old Keith Jackson highlights of a Big Ten matchup!
Good pour to this as the beer had a golden hue to it, a frothy, fluffy head, and enough lacing on the back of my pint glass to behold. Interesting hop aroma to go along with honey, some juicy orange, alcohol, and solvent with all of those present in the taste as well. Nicely balanced with plenty of body and malt but the farmhouse funk was quite hard to find here as this tasted more like a typical IPA. However, there was some onion and wine that made this look and feel just a tad more light and exotic than most other IPA's that I've had, but with enough depth to remind me of a lighter version of a Grimm Ale.
The alcohol could have been bit more subtle but it wasn't anything outrageous. It was more of just what was written on the can not aligning with what I was tasting and feeling. This was a solid beer that went down easily with plenty of flavors that meshed well together. It took a bit of getting used to but as it warmed up, I warmed up to it as well. Glad to have something like this brewed here in my neck of the woods!
