Collaboration with Carton Brewing Company

Delightful is a 7% IPA brewed in collaboration with Carton Brewing. When we were in Boston at Extreme Beer Fest in February 2018, we got into a long conversation with Augie about adjuncts in hoppy beer, and expanding the conventional idea of IPA. So, we brewed an adjunct heavy IPA at our brewery similar but different than the beer we brewed together at their spot. This 7% double dry-hopped Hazy IPA is brewed with cherry, marshmallow, vanilla, almond, lactose and hopped with loads of Citra, El Dorado and Mosaic. This concept was Inspired by Turkish Delight.

Poured an orange body with minimal head and had a pulpy, orange-juice like aroma. Thick, sweet, orange juice taste with a crisp clean finish. Not a bad beer but seemingly one-note and not one I feel the need to go back to.

On draught at the brewery. 14 oz. pour. An opaque, murky, dirty orange color with a thin, ecru-colored head and lacing. For a DIPA, there's negligible hop presence on the nose; only vanilla, marshmallow, and a faint cherry. When first sipped, the vanilla and lactose predominate but as the glass warms the beer becomes much more complex and tasty. There is a distinct cherry taste and a touch of almond. And the blend of Mosaic, Citra, and El Dorado hops is flavorful but with virtually no bitterness. This ale features a medium body with pleasant carbonation, and it's easily drinkable with an ABV of 7%. Overall, I have to say that this DIPA grew on me as I drank it. As it warmed the cherry and almond became more evident and the overall taste more interesting. You can detect Carton's hand in the delicate blend of flavors but they are bold enough to signal Magnify's involvement. It's a great beer created by two adventuresome brewers.
