Reviewed on release day. Poured from 16 oz. can into Magnify tulip glass. It pours a turbid, pale golden color with a creamy, milk-white cap and thin sheen of lacing. The nose has that distinct smell of Nelson hops, along with lemon peel, grapefruit rind, and light pine. The first taste sensation is tart, bitter lemon and bitter grapefruit, with the telltale Nelson flavor. There is also a hint of cracker malt. As the glass warms, I notice a hint of sweet malt that contrasts nicely with the tart bitterness. It finishes crisp, clean, and decidedly bitter. This ale is crisp and lite with pleasant carbonation, and a very drinkable 5.9% ABV. Overall, Dr. Nelson is another excellent addition to Magnify's single hop series. Doubtless we'll see the DIPA version soon.
