Collaboration with Finback Brewery and Temescal Brewing
Travel Expenses is a new three way collaboration with our best buds Finback Brewery and Temescal Brewing from Oakland, California. This milkshake Imperial IPA is a beer dedicated to the rigorous travel schedule we endure, making our way all around the US and Europe to get our beer into the hands of craft warriors. This passionfruit milkshake was brewed with plenty of oats and wheat, passion fruit, lactose, vanilla. It hopped heavily with Simcoe and Simcoe Cryo.

Reviewed one day after release. 14 oz. pour at the brewery. It pours a dense, murky, dirty tangerine color with a thin, ecru-colored head and thick, spotty lacing. When served on draught the smell is rather subdued but passion fruit and lemon are clearly on the nose, along with notes of lactose and oats. The taste opens with an overwhelming blast of passion fruit. Initially, it's sweet but quickly becomes quite sour and bitter, which is compounded by bitter lemon. There are notes of lactose and oats, as well as wheat cracker, which provide a dry, toast-like base that balances the fruit. Still, the passion fruit rules and gives the ale a tropical cocktail character. While there is nothing subtle about the flavors, they compliment each other well. There is a noticeable burn at the finish which will probably mellow over time. This ale is medium-bodied with lively carbonation. The 8.5% ABV gives it a kick but it isn't distracting. Overall, this is an adventuresome Milkshake IPA made by three quality brewers. It's fruity and intensely sour but refreshing and fun to drink. It will be interesting to see whether the taste and burn dissipate as time passes. If you like passion fruit, then you should really enjoy Travel Expenses. But given the sourness it's a one per session beer.
