On draught at the brewery one day after release. It pours an opaque, bright tangerine with brownish hues, and a thin, milk-white cap and soapy lacing. The smell features tart lemon, lime, grapefruit, and pine needles with just a whiff of sweeter, tropical fruit as the glass warms a bit. The taste opens tart and quite bitter. I'm tasting lemon, lime, grapefruit, and resinous pine. It's very dank. The Comet hops really shine. As the glass warms there is more sweetness with notes of melon and stone fruit, which I think comes from the Rakau hops. There is also a crackery malt and a very slight vanilla cream although I don't believe there is lactose in this ale. It finishes decidedly bitter and with a touch of astringency that may dissipate with time in a can. This ale's mouth feel is outstanding! Rich and creamy with a pleasant level of carbonation. At 8.5% ABV there is good substance but it's not overpowering and a second pour is not an issue. Overall, Midnight Society really grew on me as I drank it. The flavors and big and bold and it's refreshing on a warm, early Fall afternoon. Let this one warm a bit as the taste really develops.
