Collaboration with Barreled Souls Brewing Company
Give and Take is a 14% Imperial Stout brewed with our good friends at Barreled Souls Brewing Company from Maine. We brewed a thick base beer that we boiled for triple the time we normally do for increased body, thickness and mouthfeel. We brewed it with hundreds of pounds of marshmallows and conditioned it on way more coconut and vanilla than we needed to.

Reviewed three days after bottle release. Poured into a Magnify tulip glass. It pours a very dark walnut - approaching ebony. Not unexpectedly given the elevated ABV, the rich mocha-colored, foamy head disappeared within seconds, which is a shame since it was attractive while it lasted. It has a very fragrant nose with abundant chocolate, vanilla, and coffee, as well as notes of freshly-brewed coffee. The taste is extremely decadent, opening with rich milk chocolate and coconut. It's like drinking a Mounds Bar. But there's more to it: as I sip I'm tasting some dark cherry, nuts, and a touch of bitterness at the finish. The feel is surprisingly lite for such a big beer; it's creamy but not as viscous as I'd anticipated. While you cannot escape the 14% ABV, it's not distracting especially since this Stout is made to be sipped. Overall, Give & Take is very good but it's not quite at the level of Fuzzy Feelings, Born Day or Impatiently Waiting. I'll let another bottle age a bit and see how it compares.
