Lived to See Another Year is a new 11% Imperial Sour Ale brewed to bring in the new year. This is our biggest kettle sour yet and we conditioned it on blackberry, boysenberry, coconut and white chocolate. This beer pours a deep red color and is incredibly thick for a massive mouthfeel.

Reviewed 2 days after can release. Poured into a Magnify tulip glass. The brewery calls it an "Imperial Sour." I classified it as an American Wild Ale because that seemed more appropriate than a Fruited Lambic. It pours a murky, pretty magenta-plum-cranberry color with a large, frothy, light pink cap and lots of soapy lacing. It's a really attractive appearance. Although it appears to be fruity, the smell is chocolate and coconut-forward with subtle but noticeable red fruit. There's little obvious sourness on the nose. Wow, the taste is different. It opens with lots of white chocolate and coconut followed immediately by a wash of tart, sour blackberry and boysenberry. Notes of vanilla cream temper and balance the sourness. There is a touch of toasted bread at the finish. The flavors are surprisingly delicate and blend very well. It's delicious! Its mouth feel is rich, thick, and creamy - more like a Stout than a typical Wild Ale or Fruited Lambic. The carbonation is mild and the 11% ABV is barely noticeable. Overall, Lived to See Another Year is superb. It's lovingly crafted and manages to marry sour dark fruit with white chocolate and coconut seemlessly. I hope this becomes an annual release.
