Shamrock Shake is a new 5.5% smoothie style sour ale inspired by the classic Saint Paddy’s Day themed milkshake. This sour is brewed with lactose and conditioned on vanilla ice cream, pandan vanilla and a touch of peppermint. Pandan vanilla, often used in Southeast Asian food and has a bold green color, adds both color and sweetness to the beer. Yes, you read that right. This beer is green. We will post a pic of the beer tomorrow in case you don’t believe us. Notes of vanilla milkshakes, literally.

How do you rate a green beer?
I'm not sure but after all the years of reviewing brews on here, I can't honestly say that I've ever had anything like this. Sure, it was different and fun but in the end, this came across more as a novelty than anything else. If you're into this style and want to go all-out in celebrating Saint Patrick's Day, this would be worth a go!
Even though that's my namesake's day, I had it long after the holiday passed, Pistachio green in color with a lighter, spongy hue, this almost looked radioactive because of the brightness. Lots of big chunks of sediment swirled around in it but alas, that was my fault given how long I let this sit for. At least it didn't feel skunked and after the initial visual jolt wore off, this settled down nicely in a few ways. Lots of vanilla was in the nose along with a hint of lactose sweetness and a heavier cream that was also felt on the palate. The peppermint wasn't cool or brisk and this almost felt like a milkshake with food coloring and pandan vanilla in it, more than anything else.
The body was fine and the carbonation light, with the end result being something that was better than I expected and not overly thick, as it stayed somewhat close to it's stylistic roots. No date was written on the bottom of the can but the pots of gold on the label was a hint that this was a reward for going out of the way. I'd get it again in March if it was available, just to see if it's better fresh!

Appearance is a genuine pale, cloudy green.not your usual looking beer.
Carbonation and body are below average.
Aroma is a peppermint patty with some higher quality vanilla added.
Taste is sweet but stops before becoming extreme. Vanilla, cream, milk, vanilla ice cream with just a really nice touch of peppermint.
Overall I can see people knocking this beer but it delivers what it promises in a very well done manner. Granted this is far from a knocking back a few after mowing the lawn type of beer but for what it is its really well done.
