Gold Label Born Day is a new variant of our anniversary stout this year. We took our Bourbon Barrel Aged Coconut Cake Born Day brewed with cake batter and coconut and conditioned it a second time on even more coconut and toasted almonds. We conditioned this beer on approximately 1 pound of coconut and almonds per 500 ml bottle, meaning almost a 1 to 1 ratio of beer to adjuncts. Maybe we went a little overboard but we will let you be the judge of that.

Reviewed 5 weeks after bottle release. Poured into a snulip glass. It pours a thick, dirty mahogany. The medium-mocha-colored head fizzled away instantly leaving some rather unpleasant looking detritus floating in the glass. The nose is big and fragrant with chocolate cake batter and the distinct aroma of bourbon. The taste is just as advertised; big and sweet with chocolate, coconut, and almond notes. It's almost cloying. The effect of aging in Elijah Craig and Buffalo Trace barrels is noticeable but not distracting. Mostly, it's sweet and chocolaty. The mouth feel is super thick and viscous - it has motor oil consistency which marks Magnify's Born Day Stouts. The level of carbonation is low and you can feel the 13.5% ABV. It's most definitely a sipper. Overall, like some of the other Born Day variants, Gold Label is an acquired taste. It's made to simulate birthday cake and in that respect it succeeds. I would recommend Gold Label to any BBA Stout drinker who has a high tolerance for sweetness. This one's about as sweet as they come.

Pours fairly dark, cold bottle yields no head. Huge sweet coconut aroma mixed with toasted almonds, and I clearly smell the cake batter. Flavor is sweet coconut, almond paste, sweet cake batter. Barrel aging melds it together nicely. Creamy texture, light carbonation. Overall a delicious beer, a bit in the sweet side but I love it. It’s been a while since I have had a Magnify barrel aged beer; they have come a long way and are on top of their game.
