Appearance: Pours a Cheerwine color with a two finger pinkish head; decent retention and clumpy lacing

Smell: Jolly Rancher cherry candy with a bit of strawberry, too

Taste: Jolly Rancher cherry candy flavors, starting sweet and then bringing a little sourness to the finish; as in the aroma, there is strawberry in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Thick body with moderate carbonation

Overall: My favorite of the three Jolly Rancher variants and possibly the only can I will finish

Poured from 16oz can into my BeerAdvocate teku.

Appearance: welp, it’s red, like cherry candy. Head is a thick finger of pink foam that has excellent retention — my guess is that sugar has cemented it to the glass.

Smell: it smells like cherry Jolly Ranchers, or actually, more like Luden’s cherry cough drops. I love cherry, so I love this. I am always torn when it comes to a beer like this that has very little “beer” character to it. I admit I might also be inconsistent in my reviews when it comes to this … but I love cherry, so there you are.

Taste: mildly sour and incredibly sweet, but I suppose not any more than you’d expect, given the name and label. There does seem to be some actual beer flavor here, buried way at the bottom, a kind of earthy maltiness. But mostly what you are getting is cherry dessert. I happen to like cherry dessert, so I like this.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: perhaps I am pretending to myself that this is beer. I happen to like it, because I love cherry flavor. I am probably giving this … beverage … a huge benefit of the doubt on its beer-ness because, I mean candy cherries, who doesn’t love that? Am I a hypocrite for liking this? I should turn in by beer nerd card.
