Homer’s own “Illiad and Odyssey.” This is a full-bodied stout that uses Irish yeast and 12% oatmeal in the mash, giving it smooth flavor and rich body.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a black color with tan head that died off at a nice pace. Semi-foamy lace. The aroma had some black licorice with a delicate roasty coffee bean, and Baker’s chocolate. The flavor kicks at the roastiness to blend the black licorice and Baker’s chocolate to some molasses and then a semi-spicy to sweet aftertaste coaxing the finish in a smooth sort of way. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a fair sessionable sort of sticky feel. Mild carbonation. Good ABV. Overall, good stout worthy of having again if I could find it.

On tap at the brewery. Poured into a tall glass with good head. Minimal lacing. Rich chocolatey smell and solid taste. Great mouthfeel. Overall a solid oat stout that I would love to enjoy regularly.

Cloudy and dark brown, low carbonation even in sample pours. Slight roastiness, a hint of oat on the aroma, nearly no hop aroma.. oatmeal and roasted barley with an ephemeral sweetness. Starts sweet but finishes dry and delectable. I suspect an adequate amount of bittering hops, and the roastiness is well laid out.
Overall, a pretty good beer and definitely the best of their offerings. Don't know how often this beer is made, but they should make it all the time, and that's what should be on tap at the restaurants and bars of Homer.

I'm down in Homer for a week with some friends and the hosts were nice enough to hook us up with a handful of growlers from the local brewery. After a visit to the brewery to refill I really wanted to try the Oatmeal Stout.
It pours from the growler into a pint glass a dark brown color, no light penetrating, and not a huge head but I wouldn't expect such from the growler.
The smell is more of burnt chocalate than oatmeal, but it's pretty damn tasty. Rich, flavorul, definitely want to dive in.
I'm still not picking up a huge oatmeal presence but as far as stouts go this is a solid beer. Chocolate malts, slightly bitter... pretty damn tasty and I want more.

The second of two "wax sealed" SoBe bottles that serve as "mini-growlers" my father brought to me from Homer Brewing. From the brewery to me in the Twin Cities the beer is only about a day old (or at least since being drawn).
Cloudy brown to dark black in color. Wispy mocha colored head is a little foamy so its more than "lacing." The attack is refreshing and goes down easy. The nose has some hints of coffee. The malt flavor seems to be infused by a touch of coffee with a fruit like finish. Very interesting beer and quite good. There is a rich chocolate or cocoa like presence in this beer.
