A Belgian style spiced ale arrives around the Winter Solstice. This is the only beer we conventionally bottle. Limited to about 144 hand filled, hand numbered 22-ounce bottles, this is one you can cellar or enjoy during the holidays.

Appearance: Pours out a hazy, light brown body with a very thin, tan-colored head.
Smell: Earthy and richly spiced, like a top-dollar potpourri blend. You can literally smell the star potential in Homer Brewing's "Celestiale".
Taste: While there is some caramel sweetness to be found, its basically spices through and through. It really gives me the impression of a plateful of sugar-encrusted spice cookies. Mentioning crystalized ginger, dried orange peel, clove, and coriander would only scratch the surface.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body, with a mild carbonation.
Drinkability: At first, I was worried it would be a glass of horrors! However, it was pretty good (and interesting).

Had this on draft at Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse in Anchorage, served in a long stemmed tulip glass. The didn't have any information on this beer, but I'd say it's a Flander's Red.
The appearance was hazy brown with no head and almost no carbonation, very cider like.
The aroma was pleasantly sweet grape, on the medium light side.
The taste was tangy and sour, but more of a mild flanders red (although not expecting this, it was a pleasant surprise). Sweet dark fruits and a vinous, a tad dry. I'm not really sure of the spices other then coriander and and bitter orange peel, I'd guess most of the spice and tang comes from the yeast and bacteria, and wonder if this was aged in wine barrels. All in all quite nice. It is light though, I'd guess an ABV of 4.5-6%.
The mouthfeel is lacking, thin and watery.
The drinkability is high if you enjoy the style, as it's not overly sour, light bodied and probably pretty low ABV. All and all, this was quite nice and a pleasant suprise. Heading from Anchorage to Homer for a few days, I'm really looking forward to more of their beers!
Update: Just got back from the brewery, this is 7.1% and considered an Abby Ale. Picked up some of their hand number bottles, only a 144 bottle batch. We'll see how long I can keep these in the cellar!
