I've had this a few times now and it seems to be evolving into almost an American stout rather than an oatmeal stout...big dark chocolate impression, also coffee/java. burnt malts, and some smoky notes as well.....drinks like a bigger beer rather than oatmeal stout. It is 7.1% which is high for an Oatmeal stout. Body does not have enough depth to enter into Imperial stout territory but there are some of those characteristics on the taste. Has a touch of oily slickness to the feel but not particularly creamy from the oatmeal. Finishes with a bittersweet dark chocolate flavor....

This is a solid beer.

Nothing better than a good stout. My second taste of the Big Axe was their oatmeal stout. Had a 10oz. glass...bought a growler. Gets your attention at first with a nice nutty/chocolatey taste and finishes with a slight hoppiness that doesn't linger too long.

Exactly what a stout ought to look like. Deep dark brown color, thick creamy tan head.
Roast malt aroma dominates. Hints of espresso. Just the slightest suggestion of soy sauce.
Flavor profile is much smoother than the aroma would suggest. Caramel malt sweetness with roast chocolate flavor.
Big thick creamy mouthfeel. Sweet but not cloying finish.
This is an awesome beer. If you're going to try one beer from Big Axe, this should be it.
