Appearance:
Copper brown wearing a slim tiara of pale beige bubbles that cling to the edge of the glass. The lacing comes apart like the contrails of those really crackly fireworks and retains about the same duration as one.
Bouquet:
It’s like waiting through the opening acts to see the band you actually care about. It starts with the trademark smell that marks a bad beer: Corn. Specifically, dried corn meal. Somewhere under that displeasing introduction is a choked trickle of chocolate milk and…. Hey! Good news, everyone. After a few minutes the corn disperses, replaced by a fistful of smokey chipotles. Tangy, heated spice hits the stage strong and keeps playing till your glass is empty. Worth the wait.
Feel:
Semi-sweet with a tiny, tickling spice that fizzles over your tongue like little embers. Medium girth with a silky, slightly chewy feel, reminiscent of a quality caramel.
Taste:
The smoke of roasting chipotle peppers rising in a milk chocolate chimney. In place of wood, it’s slow-cooked over a bundle of smooth, balancing malts.
Overall:
Pretty good but not bold enough. The brew master should consider amping up the chocolate and chipotle peppers. That said, perhaps a mild lick of each was the intent.
