a very well made brown ale, and for not having anything too distinctive about it, i fond it to be an excellent example of the style, easy drinking but fairly luxurious in mouthfeel at the same time. a great use of fresh ingredients, with a deep chocolate malt base and a little sweeter crystal malt somewhere in the middle. its got a more or less flavorless ale yeast in it, but the work of fermentation is complete and the beer is nicely cleaned up by the yeast. not one of those sloppy muddy sweet browns at all. its not without its hops either, some mild bitterness that comes on about halfway through serves to balance the richer grains in here, and to help it finish up with more of a bitter dark chocolate complexion than a sweet milk chocolate one. notes of graham cracker and bread crust in here, there is some real substance. wonderful smooth bigger mouthfeel, expansive but still soft, dry and easy down. my first beer from these guys shows some real ability in the brew house, but i am curious about some of their more inventive offerings now. this is generic, but the good kind of generic. what a million other house brown ales wish they were.

Flight:
Pours on the darker side of brown, but clarity is evident. Tannish head revives itself with a light swish of the glass.
Nose is that classic nutty brown ale scent! There's an impression of robustness here. Warmth brings a little whole grain toasted notes.
Not too robust, but a nice balance of American and English in taste, to me. Little lighter in feel, but with a nice nutty taste profile. More bitter and woody/nutty resin in the bitterness that wins over any caramel maltiness (nod to the American side). Carbonation is spot on for me.
Liking this brewery's takes on the more classic styles. The few I've had from them that (relatively) push the bounds don't make it. This seems in their wheelhouse, and I like a nice robust(ish) brown, so I'm sold.

Poured in pint glass direct from keg.
L: Nice darker head, dark brown, almost stout-like in appearance-
FLAVOR: I really liked this beer! It had a nice bold and slight caramel flavor. I am a DIPA and Imperial Stout/Porter kinda guy, and this fit right in as a session ale die to it's low alcohol content. I enjoyed two of these back to back. Lots of flavor here.
S: This was not Newcastle Brown Ale- it had a lot of flavor and character which smelled great!
FEEL: I drank this in a flight of 4, and then refilled my pint glass a couple times with this brown ale with just enough carbonation.
Relatively new brew house, in a warehouse gastro pub in Vienna, VA, the Caboose Brewery is putting out some really nice beers.
Love it!
