A:
Pours a very dark brown with a nice little collar of tan head that settles to a finger. Good retention; lots of doily lacing. (4)
S:
Fruity roast, candied walnuts and horse sweat, chocolate covered cherries dusted with espresso, it is not as balanced as it seems like it should be due to the Brett character here, though. (3.75)
T:
Light tartness and medium roast neck and neck. Similar to nose with a funky twang. (3.75)
M:
Mediumish body with active carbonation and fairly roasty finish. (3.75)
O:
A brett-heavy, relatively roasty, tartish porter.
It pours like you'd expect with a nice head and lovely lingering lacing. The aroma is pretty damn complex with tart cherries and coffee grounds and noticeably opens up as it warms. It is relatively bitter and drinkable and packs more of a punch than the flavor lets on. It is a little too harsh in terms of Brett and roast for my tastes and for the style (in my most humble opinion) however, it is interesting and not half bad so I gave it a bump for that overall. I served it at 55° and it noticeably benefitted from rising to room temp. (4)
