i think this one slays, another cool seasonal beer from these guys that is way better than its ratings, and honestly better than beer that gets a lot more attention around the city here, these guys continue to fly under the radar it seems, despite their status as one of the first in the state and being such a fun place to hang. this is a rich and flavorful scottish ale, with a heather herbal and a smoked earthy note, more complex than many, yet very much still a pint beer, kind of built as it should be, and if you think you dont like the style, give this one a shot, its mellow in the right places to make it approachable, but its also sort of intelligent enough to appeal to a more seasoned palate, i thought it was awesome, and would have had several if their beer menu wasnt pulling me in all these directions. there is a neat herbal note, tea-like, offsetting some of the grain sweetness and also the bitter tendency of the smoke, like it finds this neat middle ground to bridge the whole thing together, and thats really cool. there are layers to this, and unlike so many, its neither super sweet in the residual sense, nor is it boozy, it just kind of keeps on giving. i think they nailed this one, and really, its one of their best beers so far in my experience, and i have been in here four times or something already. really good beer, dont let the ratings turn you off from this, you will be missing out!

on tap at HH brewpub. One of Highland Hollow’s newest seasonals. Sweet and nutty, earth and peat, smooth, yet very drinkable. Murky brown with minimal head.
