quality brown ale here, these guys do a nice job with the classics. this one leans a little english, which i love in general but also love in the morning and on a hangover, this really hit the spot for me given my context, been too long between visits for me here, always good times. deep in color, almost a porter tone to it, very dark brown with a frothing and lasting khaki head and inch high, looks great in the glass. the nose shows some fermentation character, an english breadiness, some amount of roasted malt too, but a lot of chocolate malt and without a ton of middle malt sweetness, not all packed with caramel and toffee richness like so many of these are, so it seems deep and light at the same time. no real hops to speak of. the flavor is great, the ferment compliments the malts nicely, and i love how low alcohol and clean it is, dry on the finish but frothy in feel, fully satisfying. subtle raisin, baking chocolate, and tea biscuit, earthy too, and layers, quite a lot of flavor packed into this little pint. delicious with their hand cut french fries in here too, ideal combination. very authentic, traditional, and even old world brown here, one of their better beers i think!

Draft at brewpub. Dark, clear brown with small, creamy head. Dark, toasty, nutty nose. Taste follows with some mild bittersweet notes. A bit of a dry finish, lingering bitterness. Not my favorite style, but this one’s well done.
