nothing funky about it, but this is a tasty beer, didnt expect it to be wild or anything, even with the name, thats not their thing here. this is subtle and drinkable, malt driven, deep amber colored, and a little bit sweet but in the right places. at first i thought id get a little more from the yeast, some esters beyond the typical euro lager, but it ends up drinking rather mellow, bready more than anything else to me in terms of the ferment, pretty tidy, but not quite drying or crisp or anything, i dont need that in this style. some nice nuttiness to the grain, even an specifically almond note, a hint of raisin too and just a little bit of concentrated richness, but this is not heavy beer, and lightens up as it flows, decent carbonation pushing it forward. i get light red apple and even cider, a pinch of chocolate malt, some wheat seems possible too, it has decent depth in terms of the malt. not quite as german overall as i thought it would be, but a mellow crowd pleasing pint, even if not immaculately done overall. i love this place, like the old school beer they make, and appreciate their efforts. nice to try some new ones on my recent visit!
