they call this a colonial ale, which is not a designation i am too familiar with, but its apparently an amber type base beer done with a little bit of molasses. its flavorful, sweet, slightly english, and light enough to drink several of, i think quite well made, these guys continue to kind of fly under the radar with some really tasty beers. medium copper colored and frothy headed from the tap. a nose of toasted grain, brown bread, toffee, and perhaps dried red apple, old world yeast or i suppose their house yeast, lots of character in much of their ferments, a little old school but its flattering in a beer like this. the flavor is bready and it sort of hits like a generic english cask beer more than an american amber, like a mild or a bitter or something, more in that vein to me, tidy enough though, bran and baked heartiness, light on the hops, and perhaps just a trace of identifiable molasses in it, but subtle on that element, without the bitterness it can sometimes bring. cohesive and somewhat complex even, despite being quite simple in its presentation, drinkable and interesting, feels old school and has a lot of personality, soft texture, creamy, one of my favorite beers ive had in here in a long time, this is the kind of thing they do best...
