it a little bit pisses me off that this has such poor ratings. im not that guy, but like, whats the beef here? unless this beer used to suck and only recently got decent, then someone correct me, but this is really sold red ale, it has balance, complexity, and yeast character, which is all you really want in the style, and its not too sweet but has plenty of structure, seems shocking to me that it hasnt gotten more respect here on BA. sure its not epic, nothing earth shattering here, but its really flavorful, a level darker and deeper in color and taste than most of these, yet remains on the dry side of the style spectrum. the fermentation is clean enough, there is a nutty and wet earthy middle to it, a toasted or kilned malt richness, and lots of fluff in the feel, backed up by moderately high carbonation. its smooth and satisfying, and that tiny little astringent element only comes out really late after its warmed up some. i think its a nice beer, and it begs for some fish and chips or something. ignore the haters, this is a nice pint!
edit: a little lighter to me, and oddly more english the second time around, some more yeast character to it, bready, still with that faint finishing astringency, but a lovely malt complexion and high drinkability. these guys just dont get enough credit...

On tap at Papa Joe’s- Boise. Pours light amber with weak head, aroma is mostly malt, lightly hopped, mildly spicy. Decent but not great. One of my earlier amber ratings, would like to revisit this sometime.

From growler.
Appearance: reddish brown. Thin head. Nice, thin lacing.
Smell: roasted barley.
Taste: roasted barley. Finishes with a bitterness from grain and hops.
Mouthfeel: medium high carbonation. Medium body. On the sweet side.
Overall: decent brownish ale. A little too roasty. A little too bitter.
Great bar/restaurant though.

Named after the horse (he’s about the same color), Doolie’s is a dark ale with ruby red overtones which show up if you hold it to the light (the beer, not the horse). A slightly roasted flavor profile and the darker color comes from the use of three different specialty malts that are roasted in varying degrees, to stringent specifications.
On tap here in Boise at the brewery. aroma was not there much appearance was find taste was middle of the road. just not good enough. palate was high on co2 overall it left me wounding why.
