I rate the atmosphere as good for a couple reasons. One, the falls and the greenbelt area around the river are the greatest part of having to stay in Idaho Falls on business. Also, I enjoy the look and feel of this older building.

The quality is ok, nothing that stands out in my experience.

Service was adequate, the bartender seems knowledgable and the servers are nice enough.

Selection is ok-to-good. There is more than 4-5 micro's on tap, so thats good. There was a really sweet Berry beer, IPA, pale, lager, wheat, and a dark at least.

Food was decent. Sandwiches/Burgers/Fish/Fries are kind of my staple there.

Overall its ok. Haven't heard or experienced anything else as good in that area.

Located in the downtown Idaho Falls. The Snake river runs by a scenic walking path
that crosses in front of the Brewery and hotels. Sign outside says 2 dollar micros thru septmeber.

Walked in and waited 5 minutes before Hostess realized we were waiting. Very few people were in a rather large facility. We were sat in front of the brew kettles which had dirty hand prints.
Amber, Raspberry Hefe,Eagle River Nut Brown, Pale Ale were the flavors posted on a large chalkboard over Brew kettles. The Amber was a bit sweet and malty maybe there best beer if they had one. The pale was terrible, it had no hops and was sweet.I asked the waitress what the hoppiest beer they had was. She went and ask the bartender than came back and replied "Miller Lite".
This is what you should expect for knowledge at this brewery. The Food was nothing spectacular nor was anything about this visit.
I mentioned to my wife that this place will go out of business.

Next Morning, I was watching local news and they had stated "the owner of Brownstone had rent issues with landlord".

Browstone Brewery Looks nice on the outside but dont waste your time going in.

It's the only brewpub in town so there isn't much to compare against locally. Beers vary from good to flawed, though, the flawed ones aren't that common anymore. You will typically find 6 in house beers and the typical macro selection. I recommend the sampler as it's the best value and you don't have to worry about spending $4 on a potentially questionable brew. Food is good and what you would expect for the prices, I almost always get a pizza or the ahi fish tacos.. Great view of the river and falls.

Saw what I could of the city from my hotel window and wondered just where this alledged Salt Lake actually was, as I still hadn't seen it. Hmmmmn. Did breakfast and went and got the car out of hotel parking hock. I had to drive a ways south to dump Scotty off at the place where you get the bus that takes you to the ski mountain, and then I turned and aimed the car north towards Idaho...
Rain and fog through the mountains, not so much in Utah but, man, once I hit Idaho, sure. Eventually, Idaho Falls. It was easy navigating to Brownstone, a stand alone brick building with large panel front windows that look out over the Snake River. It's one big room split in half by a short wall. Brick walls, "A" frame ceiling with woodbeams painted pale green, white stucco walls, drop spot lighting and lots of light from those panel windows. To the front of the building there's a loft area above with banquet seating and to the rear of the building the loft area holds fermenters visible from below. There's a dozen and a half tables in the dining area running up on small copper kettles and a masher in a low brick pen. The other side of the building shows a kind of "W" shaped bar, with seating for about a dozen. A big flat screen over the bar, TV's in corners, and upwards of a dozen bar tables run the room.
5 house taps (Amber, Hefe, Nut Brown, Amber Bock, Pale Ale) and 6 guest taps (Guinness, Bass, Bud, Bud Light, Coors Light, Michelob Ultra). Wah wah!!! Of course, I took in the sampler. The Amber was sweetish, the Hefe unfiltered and bananananana and nice, the Nut Brown malty and chocolatey, the Amber Bock sharp and deep, and the Pale Ale was hot to hoppy and not so good. The samples ran a big 50 cents a piece, not too shabby. Took them in with a pretty good soup and a so-so salad. Sat chatting with some of the regulars and it wasn't 'til I was leaving that I spotted the "86'd board" which stated simply, "Black Butte Porter cask". "What?!?!? You have the Black Butte Porter on cask?" "We did, but it's gone now. That's why it's on the 86'd board". Damn!! It's a tough one to rate on selection as they only make 5 house beers and run more crappy macros than their own beers, and then there's the cask, but the cask was kicked. How do you score that one?
213 miles on a Friday morning and no cask Black Butte Porter.
