Clear, dark brown pour, near-opaque in the glass; huge head, dense and creamy, long-lasting, khaki hued. Outstanding nose; sweet cocoa powder and milk chocolate tones; roasted grains. Beautiful flavor; milk and bitter chocolate; grain char with corresponding bitterness similar to black coffee. Medium-heavy body; silky smooth and dense; lip-smacking stickiness.

Overall, this is a wonderful porter, straightforward with no apparent adjuncts. Delicious and satisfying.

people freak out about this brewery, and i guess i havent had enough of their stuff to really form a solid opinion, this is great porter, no denying it, but like, is it life changing and memorable and appreciably better than all the others, maybe not, although its a darn fine glass of beer and im not here to gripe about it, im here to enjoy it, and it was cool to dip into something of theirs. black in color, truly, which is cool, puffy near inch of burlap colored foam, nice and thick on top. heavy roast in aroma and flavor, leans into that, with the rest of the grain establishing some nice creamy body and textural softness and richness, but i dont get a lot of sweetness in that middle space, its roast first and roast last, with some nice brewed coffee character to it, adding a cozy element in an otherwise kind of abyssal brew, maybe faint raisin there, but nice bitterness, short of burnt but not by much, charcoal, good tobacco, wintery to me but not particularly heavy. there is a smoothness here which is wonderful, its long and even kind of gentle for having these low end flavors, good carbonation too, almost creamy, its best feature is the mouthfeel for me. dark coffee, bitter earthy dark chocolate, sort of an almost volcanic minerality, dry which i like, nuanced without being exceedingly complex or anything, and this is the heavier side of porter, if you called it a stout and put it in front of me, i wouldnt protest. long on the palate, cleanly fermented though, and i think technically very expert. no complaints, this is very nice, robust as they go, unapologetically roasty and deep.

This is solid porter.
Th nose pumps a deep toasty brown bread crust that is slightly charred note. But as though intentional versus a sloppy baking. The malts finally hint at an understated sweetness akin to wet squaw bread dough.
The flavor carries the brown bread char that starts a bit sweet and toasty, then goes to a slightly smoky meets coffee note. Eventually hints of coffee turn to bitter cocoa, and finally some prune.
Mouthfeel is medium heft and goes to the end with a earthy, slightly bitter finish.

Dark chestnut brown color with ruby highlights, small head but some good lacing. Aroma is roast and milky/lactate. Flavor is similar. Milky smooth, roasted and caramel malts. Mild hoppiness. Very milky. Decent.

Vary dark as a porter should be, creamy brown lacey head, sweet, slightly bitter, taste of coffee and bitter sweet chocolate, very nice, rich yet not overly heavy. Will buy again.

You say “robust” and I’m thinking Charles Laughton (especially while directing “Night of the Hunter”). Now, does Oss stack up to a tatted Robert Mitchum? Hot damn, I’m thinking yes. I’m thinking yes like Earhart circling the globe (well, if she had made it). Either way and anyway, just drink the damn thang. I plan to.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted and dark biscuit malt, vanilla and milk chocolate. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light to moderate char, milk chocolate and a touch of vanilla; medium dry. Great lightly charry, coffee and cocoa finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. An excellent medium bodied porter with a great malt base and nice cocoa and mild coffee notes. The moderate dryness is reminiscent of an export stout, but with a more robust body and flavor depth. The labelled robust porter name is apt. I liked this one quite a bit. I'll check these guys out again.
