A: Poured into my Radeberger Pilsner glass. Murky amber. So much so that the beer appears thick. A quickly rising, airy, persistent bone white head laces the glass. Attractive.
S: There's a sweet and faintly tart fruitiness and a dense bready character that I would describe as pineapple upside down cake. Wasa crisp bread. Give it a vigorous swirl and you get a more funky profile which is both sweet and sour. Ripened banana, a bit musty, fresh berries, slight citrus that borders sweet. Rhubarb pie. Again, big sweet and sour battle going on here. Great nose.
T: Banana bread, pie crust, a touch of holiday spice. Finish is moderately dry with the wheat coming through, crackers, and a touch of dry citrus pith.
M: Mildly carbonated and smooth.
D: I rarely drink this style, if at all. In fact I would only order it if its my only option. However, this bottle was placed next to the usual local offering selection and caught my eye as being new. Figured I'd give it a shot. By no means am I judging this according to style, because i don't drink it enough to compare to others. Great nose with complexities. Tasty flavor profile that is less focused on the sweeter yeast driven flavors that I generally dislike in this style, with a more balanced sweet and sour profile. For the quality, price and fact that its local I would buy this beer all summer long. I wish I had another bottle right now so I could continue to explore the broad spectrum of flavors and nose this beer has to offer.
