A: Pours a cola color, and appears dark brown in the glass. Opaque. Stubborn beer does not want to form a head. Makes the beer appear flat. After the pour there is indeed no head, no lacing, and no visible carbonation. Gave the bottle a swirl before the last pour, so I have some speckles of yeast that have settled on the bottom of my glass.
S: Weak freshly ground coffee, semi sweet chocolate, and a hint of fig. This is a subtle porter.
T: The flavor profile follows the nose closely, with notes of watered down coffee, cocoa. There is a nice dry, bitterness on the finish, but in a pleasant way.
M: I am not sure if this beer is undercarbonated. I believe they were delivered a couple weeks ago, and assume they were brewed shortly before then. Perhaps its needs a bit more time in the bottle. The store clerk mentioned this brewery held a tasting at his store a couple weeks ago and the beer was flat. Sounds like it needed some more time in the bottle at that point, but I would say it feels almost where it I would like it to be.
D: There's absolutely nothing undrinkable about this beer. While the flavors are subtle and there is no complexity to this beer, the taste is good. The dryness is nice. I would say there are better locally available, non-imperial, porters, but I would definitely drink this again. Probably my least favorite offering from the is brewery so far, but then again I REALLY enjoyed the Hefeweizen and Amber/Alt, so there is a high standard. On deck: Duck Boy Pale Ale.
