Mariestads Höstbrygd, ABV: 3.5%.
500 ml bottle, 42.90 SEK à 4-pack at ICA Kvantum.

A: The liquid is clear and wine red, with a big fluffy beige head. Great retention.

S: A rather clean aroma with fruity hops, malt, rye bread, butter, syrup and oranges.

T: Doughy brown bread, slightly roasted malt and fruity hops, syrup, orange peels, some metallic notes (but they're not too bad) and yeast.

M: Somewhat watery, a small body, good medium bitterness and high drinkability.

O: Light mouthfeel, as usual at this strength, but still a tasty and decently bitter beer - one of the better examples of 'folköl' I've had - something simple to relax with on a dark Swedish autumn evening. Nice, I think, with most regular Swedish food - and on its own.

Pours a big creamy off-white head. Amber colour, lots of lacing. Aroma isn't that bad either, lots of malts, but also clean crisp notes of hops. Then comes the flavour and the beer is ruined it is so damn watery that I can't believe it. The wateryness aside it has a decent bitterness to it and there is some flavour. Mouthfeel is flat just flat.

The colour is amber; the thick head is pale beige. It sinks slowly leaving lots of lacing.

The smell is quite bitter and hoppy. Strong notes of yeast, dough and rye bread. Metallic, dry bitter notes. Some margarine in the background.

The taste is surprisingly malty with hints of roasted nuts, dark bread, some yeast and butter. A passing fresh bitterness, too. Big body for the ABV. The aftertaste is a little salty with dry hints of rye bread, butter, beef stock and a hint of toffee. There is a mild aromatic (spicy) bitterness in the background.

The carbonation is medium, the bubbles very small. The liquid is light to medium smooth.

Much better than expected: In fact, not a bad beer at all.
