Mountain Hero is a slightly hazy, pale lemony amber in color. Thin streams of carbonation support a cloudy, bone white head with decent retention.
Delicate, balanced, floral, and perfumed are the first words that come to mind when smelling this saison. Floral perfumed notes come from what smells like ripe fruit, most notably ripe pear. Ripe fruit is supported by gentle notes of clove, peppercorn, and mild Belgian funkiness.
On the tongue, Mountain Hero is smooth, crisp, delicate, and very nicely balanced. Flavors of ripe pear, ripe orange, and honey provide the foundation for other flavors like clove, peppercorn, and Belgian funk. Faint hints of earth give the flavor profile a little depth. The finish is dry and lasting with hints of peppery, European hops.
Mountain Hero Saison is crisp, delicate, well balanced, and frankly, delicious. The carbonation is delicate, adding balance to the ripe, juicy qualities. Which is a nice contrast to the overly spritzy carbonation you can find in other examples of this style. Well worth a visit.
