Notes: To those who’ve tasted it, our barrel-aged Sour in the Rye ale is an instant classic. To those of you about to take a sip of this limited “POG juice” edition, get ready to be transported to the tropics. Passionfruit, orange and guava join forces for a refreshing, juicy and bright combination with the rye spice notes of the base beer, all while basking in careful balance with the honey, vanilla and woody character imparted from barrel-aging. Enjoy relaxing and sipping on this one with your friends, and think up a clever game or two with the bottlecap when you do.

Split with JLindros. 2017 vintage.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a slightly hazy copper hue with a thin white head that fades to halo.

S - Big aromas of tart sour rye, big guava and tart passion fruit. The citrus is quite nice and fruity. Really fragrant.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice tart passion fruit and guava. Ultra sour and tart with great citrus and tropical notes.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, however, it's rather flemmy.

O - Overall this was a very solid wild ale with great fruit note. Love the tropical going on here.

Bottle: poured a hazy/cloudy bright orange color ale with a large foamy head with light retention and not much lacing. Aroma of strong tart notes with tons of fruit flavours such as orange and guava. Taste is a mix of strong tart notes with some light acid notes with loads of orange and guava notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Enjoyable even though is quite intense flavour-wise. It could have benefited form less aggressive sour notes.

2017, 750 poured to snifter

Pours red gold, small head falls immediately

Aroma is guava, rhubarb, and light oak

The crazy rhubarb note follows into the flavor, passionfruit and orange noticeable. Sharper oak and vanilla notes. Guava, grass and lime notes hiding out in the back.

Mouthfeel is perfect for a sour of this size, lively, astringent

I've had others in the series, this fruit mix is new to me, and seemed potentially odd. It is odd, in a good way. As it travels in temperature, the profile changes, and seems to have a sweet spot around 45 as the label recommends.

Really enjoy this for the unique tangyness that the passionfruit and guava provide. Not something I would want regularly, but a really fun beer and a great non-intuitive combination.

750ml bottle into a snifter appears a hazy orange color with a white cap.

Nose of acetone, something like pineapple and paint thinner with a hint of plastic.

Taste has acetone, paint thinner and orange to fruity weird pineapple meets grassy aftertaste.

This is medium in body with modest carbonation. Not a fan.

2017 vintage
750ml bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours a clear bright amber orange color with a one-finger foamy white head that reduces to a ring around the edge

S- tart tropical fruit notes on the nose with an emphasis on citrus peel, passionfruit, guava & mango. Sharp woody oak and vanilla

T- tart pasdionfruit and guava notes mix with clean citrus peel notes before turning tart at the mid-palate. The finish brings out fresh woody oak notes that adds vanilla as well. The linger brings out s one peppery Rye, as well as more tart tropical fruit notes

M- medium-light body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a dry & tart finish

O- all three fruit additions are noticeable and work well with the base beer, very good

Aroma: Lightly tart, guava, passionfruit, lychee, bandaid with hints of oak, vanilla and citrus zest.

Taste: Sour, tart, orange, passionfruit, guava with touches of oak and vinegar.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with moderate to high prickly carbonation.

Overall: A very nice and refreshing Wild Ale with good fruit and woody flavours.

Poured from 750ml bottle into glass. Bottling date is stamped as '8/30/17'.
Cloudy, gold body with color accents from the fruits (kind of a orange and brown combination). Fizzy head settles into bubble fed islands and ring. Any spots of lacing slide back down into the beer.
Aroma is sour, with guava leading the way, and the other citrus fruits adding in. Also spicy grain, woody oak, and a slight funk.
Taste is also sour, with a great balance of guava, orange, spicy grain, and the oak barrel. Barnyard funk is present.
Medium mouth feel, very dry but fruity/juicy in a way.
Very well balanced sour, with a complex fruit taste.

The beer is 44 degrees and served in my tulip glass. A hard pour on the beer produced an orange and tan head. The head fizzled quickly. The head is foamy, creamy, and airy leaving no lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 12 a medium amber with copper hues. The clarity of the beer is clear, with a touch of haziness. The head is just a ring around the glass.
Orange, grains, passions fruit, tropical, limes, rye, oak, sourness (like vinegar), vanilla, honey, toasted malts, and yeast.

Orange, passion fruit, tropical, oak, toasted malts, yeast, lemons, rye, honey,

The mouthfeel of the beer is crisp, acidic, and clean.
The body of the beer is light, high carbonation, and a medium finish.
The beer is well balanced and well made. The flavors in the beer are in harmony with each other.

2017 Vintage

Appearance: Slightly cloudy medium-amber color with a moderate-sized white head that quickly dissipated.

Smell: The Guava notes feature prominently withe the passion fruit and orange additions discernible as a strong citrus aroma. There's the slightest hint of barnyard funk. nice nose coming from this beer.

Taste: Guava, citrus notes, and mild funk notes feature prominently. The Guava is prominent in both the nose and taste. Very mild acetic notes are present with the guava and citrus notes lingering in the finish.

Mouth-feel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: The guava, Passion Fruit and Orange all worked well together and are a nice addition to the base Sour in the Rye. My favorite version is still Sour in the Rye with peaches but this is a really good beer. Nicely done.

750mL bottle acquired through The Bruery’s Society. Bottled 8/31/17. Served in a Bruery snifter. Enjoyed 1/7/18.

Pours a murky, faded burnt orange with almost two full fingers of ecrue head. The froth dies away, leaving only a few sparce bubbles around the edges.

Fantastically tropical sour nose. Guava, passion fruit, soured grain, funky wet wood and orange.

The taste is puckeringly sour in a wonderful way. Tart passion fruit and guava lead but orange and oak fall in soon after. Funked rye grain, mild leather character, a swift punch of lacto sour, a smidge of earth, and even more POG punch. Truly outstanding.

Pillowy medium body with nice soft carbonation. Sour POG nectar rules the finish with a little wet oak and funky grain.

The Bruery has outdone themselves. Far and away my favorite iteration of Sour in the Rye to date.

A: Moderate passion fruit, followed by light orange zest and guava, coupled with a moderate sourness.

T: Moderate passion fruit flavor, mixed with light orange zest and guava flavors, followed by a moderate, lingering sourness and light oak.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Tasty; the beer has great passion fruit, orange, guava aroma and flavor, though the fruit is not quite as prominent as when the beer appeared at the Firestone Festival.
