Pours a dark winey red, 1" light rust head that settles quickly, no lacing. Nose is smoke, sour cherries, wood, campfires, and strong lactic notes that tilt its sourness. Taste is bracingly sour up front with distinct red fruit notes, while charred wood and smoke (wood smoke, not liquid smoke) take over mid-palate. Deeper on the finish the acidity comes back and lingers nicely. Mouthfeel is moderate and consistent with style, and the carbonation is prickly enough to keep it refreshing. This is a really well done beer and hopefully they give this another shot.

A: poured into a tulip glass do a deep brown beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky two finger light tan head which fades slowly into the ether with no lacing.
S: Smells of smoky and oaky notes with some slight sour cherry notes.
T: Taste is some nice sourness up front with some leather. There's some definite smoke and oak throughout the drink which is really interesting that reminds me a bit of some bbq. Hints of cherry with some funk as well. On the swallow there's more sour cherry and leather with some smoke and oak.
M: This beer has a body which is on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is slightlyeffervescent while the beer has a drying finish due to the acidity.
O: Overall this is a pretty neat beer. The addition of the smoked oak staves adds an interesting dimension to this beer. I'm not sure if it's a flavor that I really like in a sour, but it doesn't taste bad. Really nice complexity and balance on the beer though. It's just a little unexpected. Worth a try.
