2SP Brewing Co. "Tacocat"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$3.99 @ Total Wine & More, Claymont, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: A hazy golden body is capped by an inch plus of fluffy white foam. Lots of bubbles can be seen racing towards the surface suggesting that it's got a pretty high carbonation level. Tiny bits of particulate are visible in suspension. In the nose it's citrusy and quite berry-like. Is this a fruit beer? There's nothing on the label so I assume not. The malt is sweetish and grainy. On to the taste... the berry character remains but it's probably even more citrusy, piney, and tropical. I'm getting papaya, tangerine, mango, and nectarine. There's a weird kind of clove note that I'm not so sure is supposed to be there. The malt appears to be pale malt, and it's certainly not the usual 2-row/wheat/oats that's used in so many NEIPAs. A firm bitterness keeps it dry in the finish, and the carbonation bristles on the tongue. The body is medium. The head dropped but I still have a thin but solid creamy cap of foam, and there's some decent lacing left behind. I like this because it's a little bit of a newer style beer in terms of hops, but it remains a proper pale ale. Ahhh, I just realized that the name is a palindrome, I thought it was just named after a cat that likes tacos. My cat likes tacos, so why not?

Drawn from a tap, it was served in a clear pint glass. The color is bright, a light color of copper-amber. The carbonation is just right and a nearly perfect off-white modest and enduring head sits on top. It may not be translucent, but it sure isn't close to being opaque. There's a light aroma of a standard ale, mostly malt, hops and a little yeast. The taste is just fine for an APA, just slightly malty, with a nice little hop bite at the finish. That dries this out a little, which helps because the mouthfeel runs a little thin. Like the overall, the glass lacing is little more than mediocre. Here is a nothing wrong, nothing outstanding American Pale Ale.

A thanks to the founding father of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of tangerines, some grapefruit. Taste is grapefruit, pine, bitter for the style. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Can dated 9/1/2 into pint glass. Pours a clear amber with a modest off-white head. Initial impression is juicy citrus (grapefruit and orange), slightly sweet at first but morphing to a slight resinous bite. Mouthfeel is medium, clean, and refreshing - as is the finish. Overall, a very enjoyable old school IPA. Nothing spectacular, but extremely well done.
