In reefer at Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. $ 2.00 (Including tax)/16 oz can ($ 0.125/oz). Reviewed 3/23/20.
Undated Can. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 45 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.
First pour – Pale gold (SRM 4), clear.
Body – Gold (SRM = 5), clear. When held to direct light, a slight haze is noted as well a slight effervescence.
Head – Large (Maximum four cm, aggressive center pour), off white, medium density with rocks, fizzy, short retention, diminishing to a two mm crown and thin partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Apple and cinnamon, sweet – smells like apple pie.
Flavor – 3 – Begins cloyingly with a poor parody of the nose. A cinnamon-like flavor dominates a rotting-apple background. No alcohol (5.2 % ABV as marked on the label) taste or aroma. No diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, softly fizzy carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 2.75 (Lost 0.25 point for undated can). A sweet mess with a high gag factor. At $2/can still greatly overpriced. The label is the best portion of this beer – simple and straight-forward. Another less than mediocre brew from Pittsburgh Brewing.
