Lauterhouse Sessionables is our newest collabo microbrew with our west coast friends Monkish Brewing Co. Clocking in at 5.5%, Lauterhouse Sessionables is a single dry-hopped Witbier ale. This ale wasn't meant to be a hoppy one, just a super refreshing Witbier with a subtle hop presence from the gentle Citra dry-hop addition. When it comes to a session ale, Monkish and The Veil say "make ours a Lauterhouse!

Pale golden, medium white head and nice lacing. Aromas of hops, grass, hay and grapefruit. Tasting notes follow exactly. Clean, light, and crushable. Nice session beer.

A: Pours a cloudy medium golden apricot in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation and faint to moderate orange colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense foamy bright white head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of half finger thick cap in the center surrounded by a large patch of thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of tropical/passionfruit, citrus/grapefruit, and floral hops over the top of lighter aromas of wheat + pale malts.

T: Upfront there are just shy of moderate flavors of wheat + pale malts with minimal amounts of grainy sweetness. That is followed by a moderate flavor of tropical/passionfruit, citrus/grapefruit, and floral hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away quickly.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a hint of chalkiness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink and refreshing, I enjoyed the Citra dry-hopped addition to a more traditional wibier. I could easily have a couple of these.

Smell: classic wit orange lemon zest some tangerine dry yeast

Taste: this is a wit it has the classic flavors of orange lemon some citrus juice mid palate dry yeast the beer finishes with more orange and a little bit of yellow grapefruit.

Feel: medium body super easy drinking. Really seasonable. That would be great on a hot summer day.

Overall: a really tasty wit the beer is very well done. I could definitely drink a few of these.

The aroma is textbook witbier, though it's missing one or two things. Most notably the orange peel. The spice notes of coriander and clove are there in full force, however. Citra hops seem to be a substitute for orange peel, but its aromatic presence is subtle at best. Wheat malts are defined and nuanced well. It's a perfectly fine-smelling witbier that doesn't really stand out much. On the taste buds, traces of Citra-derived citrus hops open it up in a subtle manner - this is no IPA, nor is it trying to be. Near the end, an excessive amount of yeast runs roughshod over everything. There are some nice notes of lemon, coriander, and clove, but none of them seem well rounded. The mouthfeel is weird, too: chalky and weirdly parching, without much creaminess. Also, it's shockingly heavy in body, but has nice levels of carbonation. Well, here it is, the first Veil beer I'm not going ga-ga over. Its problem isn't how it compares to The Veil's IPAs in some unfair apples-and-oranges comparo, its problem lies in how there are many better witbiers on the market currently. Add in its price point, and I wouldn't be sad if this remained a one-and-done.

3.08/5: Oddly mediocre - a first from The Veil
