DIPA hopped heavily with a 50/50 blend of one of our favorite hops Citra and the almighty Simcoe. This is not an actual recipe blend but the end result is very reminiscent of Broz Night Out combined with Cat Boy. If you dig either of those beers, you will def be into this one.

A pinch of this, a pinch of that, a creation to delight. I greatly enjoyed this beer and wish I had more to partake in.

16 oz. can dated 6/13/17 and poured into Teku glass.

L: Orange/copper look. 2F head, OK retention, leaves spotty lacing on glass and a cap and ring.

S: Nice orange and grapefruit from the Citra, some earthiness and pine from the Simcoe. Always a good combination for an IPA.

T: Follows nose and comes out really nicely. Citrus and light cracker malts, followed by some earthiness and pine. Finish very slightly bitter.

F: Mediumish feel, light to medium carbonation. Earth and pine linger, which is good in this case. Good construction and balance.

O: Honestly mystified why this didn't get more attention and better ratings.

can dated 6/13/17. Most veil DIPA's look the same so this is right there with the rest! the smell is more dank/oniony/pine than those tropical/citrus fruits. The taste is actually fruit forward then moving to dank and finishes with pine notes. The feel is medium-full with a nice slick hop coating, maybe a subtle dryness in the back. overall it on par for a Veil beer!

The Veil Brewing Co. "Potato Napkin"
16 fl. oz. can, canned on 06/13/17 and sampled on 06/23/17
$16/4-pack @ the brewery

Notes via stream of consciousness: I've got a nice clean palate for this one, first beer of the day at 11:30 am. A crack and a pour equals another cloudy one. I wonder if I should have let these cans sit longer and maybe they'd have dropped clearer. Or are they supposed to be this cloudy? I do appreciate that they're only 10 days old though, you can't get much fresher than that. So, OK, cloudy orange-gold body beneath a finger-thick head of white foam. It looks like a glass of pulpy orange juice. It smells more like grapefruit though. Softly sweetened grapefruit with mild tangerine and hop resins. It's got that raspy edge to it, I love that ~ piney and woody. It's not the brightest aroma I've had from them, but it's certainly not bad. Well I'm not getting much more right now, so let's check the flavor... hmmm, totally different than I expected, it's like a wall of malt hitting your mouth, and that's not a bad thing, but I was thinking it would be be 'thinner' with the aforementioned hops more prominent. Nope, there's the grainy malt, of course, and then peach and apricot. That's the big hit, and then there are lesser notes of grapefruit, melon, lime, pine, pine resin and bark, and mango. There are probably more depending on your own palate, but that's what I find. It's interesting, and really different than the "Eyelidz" that I sampled yesterday despite being very similar in style and hop character. And by the way, what is with these names? "Eyelidz" is OK, but "Potato Napkin"? Are they just making anything up? Pick two words from the dictionary and you're good, or is it a joke on naming beers? Ehhh, I like some of their other names though. Moving forward, not unlike a lot of their other beers, the bitterness is limited, particularly for a DIPA. It doesn't smash you, and I personally appreciate that, it allows me to enjoy the hops for longer as the bitterness doesn't build on my palate to the point that I don't get as much of everything else; and for the most part it remains balanced and dry in the finish. There is bitterness there, maybe high level pale ale or mid-level IPA... it's hard to tell where it's at with all that malt. It's sweetish up front, and there is some residual sweet malt in the finish but the pine helps to balance it. And I certainly don't feel it's sticky or cloying. Maybe that's why people like their beers so much. They're certainly easy to drink. Anyway, it's medium bodied with a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation that lends a gentle caress to the palate, again leaving it quite drinkable. Looking back there's some nice initial lacing that's been left behind, and some spotty lace with each subsequent sip. I'm sure there'd be more if it had more carb to it but I'll take the trade-off for the smoother mouthfeel. The alcohol doesn't really show, and almost barely has a presence, although there's some there. Some bitterness as well. Finishes with pine and wet underbrush and earthiness and grapefruit and peach. Not my favorite Veil beer overall, but up there ~ although I've only had around five of them ~ but I'd certainly recommend it for hop heads.

I have no clue what a potato napkin is. But, I do know what this is - it's a DIPA with a typical Veil orange juice body with a fairly luxurious and foamy white head.

Nose has plenty of up front orange that may fade closer to grapefruit. Not too much after that.

Taste is a cross between orange and a super bitter grapefruit, so very much that the bitter lingers in a stagnant, powdery way. Depth manifests itself in an earthy, veggie kind of way, but man, lingering bitter is off the charts when compared to other Veil beers I've had. Not a west coast bitter per se, it's an almost like an orange peel total tongue domination that when it fades, leaves behind almost an exact aftertaste of orange peel.

Overall, it's extremely well crafted.

Another solid offering from Veil, but if you out this beside broz or cat boy, or a lot of their other IPA/DIPA offerings, you wouldn't be able to distinguish them

L - Pours a deep hazy orange color with a frothy white head.
S - Smells of citrus and hops.
T - Tastes matches the smell, very hoppy and citrusy with some bitterness on the finish.
F - Medium body & carbonation.
O - Very tasty double IPA.
