16 oz. can dated 6/13/17 poured into Teku glass.

L: 2F+ soapy head leaving spotty lacing and a cap and ring. Beer is a hazy bronze.

S: Wooo, lots going on here. Strong orange and pineapple bomb with lots of lemon and earthiness.

T: More or less follows nose. Lemon grows pretty strong over the course of the taste and into the earthy finish, while orange and pineapple provide the opening, flowing into light malt. This is good.

F: Mediumish body, fairly aggressive carbonation. Good balance. Not a super-quick drinker, but certainly drinkable. Good drying.

O: Nice DIPA loaded with hops.

 

 

 

 

 

Can dated 6/13/17 poured into an oversized tulip. The pour is a little more brown than other OJ Juicy Veil beers with minimal white head that fades leaving spotted lacing behind. the smell is of tropical fruits, dank pine, onion, and green peppers. the taste is Very green peppery forward with slight tropical fruit notes in the back. the feel is kinda dry and medium, for an 8.5% i would have liked more. Overall not a normal Veil beer but not bad at all.

Notes via stream of consciousness: Perfect timing on this one, canned just 9 days ago. Some will argue that even fresher is better but I believe the beer has to get over some "bottle shock". Or is that "can shock" in this case? And is there such a thing as "can shock"? I know "bottle shock" exists because I've tasted it myself but I've never worked a canning line so I'm not sure. Anyway, it pours a very hazy orangeish brass color. It looks like apple cider more than orange juice. The short head of bright white drops almost instantly to just a thin collar. No lacing is left behind. Wow, I can barely see the bubbles rising within. Moving forward... the aroma is herbal, earthy, and fruity (berry, tropical). To a much lesser extent I also find what I think of as wet, torn pine bark (like when you're chopping wood) and soft pine needles on the damp forest floor. The flavor just explodes! Wow! It's juicy, that's for sure, but it's not tart. There's a light bit of acidity to it but that's it. The fruity notes just go on and on, but they include lychee, gooseberry, red apple, mango, papaya, tangerine, passionfruit, sweet red berries, blueberry, and lime/lemon. Oddly, it's not that bitter for a double IPA. In fact, it's not that bitter at all, it's all about the hops. Still, it finishes dry. Another oddity, it lingers for quite a while but it doesn't linger strongly. The malt is sweetish, but it's not too heavy, I'd call it medium leaning medium-full ~ and the carbonation is smooth and soft. What's the alcohol on this? ~ the alcohol never really shows by the way, but there is a "presence" in the finish that you kind of need with such a full beer ~ it's 8.5%! Wow, that surprises me, I thought it would be less. Why I was checking was also to see if it was, and then to suggest that this is "dangerously drinkable" ~ you could easily get carried away with this. That's good, but check yourself. I've had about a half of a can, 8 oz., and if I had another I'd absolutely open it immediately following this one. And I'd probably go for a third if I had it. Superb. Absolutely superb. I'm so glad I lucked into this one. Perfectly balanced and rounded, and so rich in character. Stunning.

 

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 6/13/17 into a Willi Becher pint glass.
L - Pours a hazy deep orange with a white head.
S - Smells of hops and citrus.
T - Tastes of citrus and hops, with some slight bitterness and some lemon on the finish.
F - Medium body and carbonation.
O - Easy drinking for a double IPA.
