@ The Veil

Hazy orange with a slim, bubbly white covering. Smells of oranges, scallions, grass, and mango slices. Flavor has that Nelson dankness…pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit zest, passion fruit, and pine sap. Medium bodied with fluffy carbonation and a dry finish with some lingering bitterness. Good stuff – love that Nelson attack.

Poured a cloudy, light-orange body with one-finger head and lace ring down the glass. Mild citric notes in the aroma with notes of other fruits (default: tropical). Boozy, heavy, bitter, sharp acidic hop bite that slightly overpowers the other fruit notes and finishes a tad medicinal despite the low ABV and the fruit flavors in beer (a good beer but compared to the other Veil beers I had this one wasn't quite up there).

On tap pours a totally hazy orange. Smell is fruity and dank, heavy on the tropical but also some citrus and pine. Taste follows. Decent hit of bitterness at the end. Medium feel, very drinkable. No trace of booziness. Great beer.

This beer is a tropical fruit explosion. Pineapple, mango, guava, and more with citrus flavors and peach and just a hint of bitterness to keep the fruit flavors honest. The 8% abv is barely perceptible. Consumed at exactly 1 month old and looking back at the first two reviews if anything the beer has improved in that time.

@theveilbrewing Do Not Disturb. A double IPA. 8% ABV Richmond, Virginia

Look: Hazy peach juice. Opaque. The head is thick with big bubbles and is a clean white.

Smell: Pineapple, guava, peach, lychee, mango, a little of that bitter galaxy pine, Sauvignon blanc, a hint of that stanky hop b.o., and cantaloupe. All hops. No alcohol which is surprising given it’s ABV.

Taste: Guava and cantaloupe right on the attack. The bright melon note is fantastic. Then it gets quite bitter with notes of marmalade, green mango, and grapefruit rind. This mellows out to a body of dried peaches, overripe pineapple, a little green oniony, and bitter orange peel. There is a doughy malt body in there. Like all of these fruit notes are in a jam spread over some doughy white bread. The doughy note hangs on the finish as it dries out with a subtle Sauvignon blanc note and some grassy bitterness.

Feel: Creamy and smooth at first. The bitterness ramps up quickly. Medium plus bodied. It drinks heavy on the tongue. There is a pronounced alcohol in the body and a medium plus bitterness. The finish is bone dry with more bitterness. The bitterness clings to the enamel of my teeth like a big old school west coast IPA.

Overall: A okay hazy double IPA. This one is just all over the place. It’s quite bitter for the style. Also, there is nothing subtle in this beer. Everything from the booze to the bitterness to the hop flavor is big and bold. This leads to too much competition on the palate. It is pleasant to drink but I couldn’t have more then one. Just doesn’t break away from the middle of the hazy IPA pack.

A good but not great DIPA. There is something that gets me a little in the back of the throat. Kind of a boozy twang or something and a touch bitter in finish. Overall very solid but not quite as dialed in as a few other Veil offerings.
