Collaboration with 3 Sons Brewing Co.
Bourbon Distant is an imperial stout conditioned on sweet cherries, aged in bourbon barrels for 14 months, and is the second half of a collaboration with 3 Sons Brewing Co in Florida. For this one we took the same base beer as Apple Brandy Distant, but instead we aged it in beautiful Buffalo Trace barrels. Nice bourbon aroma and a flavor of cherries dipped in chocolate syrup. The cherries brighten and open up the flavors of the dense and layered Imperial Stout.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This one smells like sweet cherry liqueur, bourbon, caramel, chocolate, and oak.
There's possibly too much cherry here- it's somewhat heavy-handed and one note. Chocolate-covered cherries are obviously delicious, but I would have liked some other flavor notes to balance the sweetness imparted here. The barrel is definitely done well, though, with a nice warming bourbon character that doesn't add a ton of booziness.
This is pretty thick, with a bit of a syrupy sweet feel on the back end. It's still pretty drinkable.
This isn't my favorite Veil stout, as the cherry is just overwhelming here. It's still worth a try, though.
