This is an enigma to categorize. The label states it's a Double IPA and it has the ABV to warrant that. It also contains raspberry, blueberry and milk sugar. Odd ingredients for a DIPA. It pours from a pint can like a fruited kettle sour with added lactose. Resting inside a clear glass Imperial pint mug, the erstwhile contents of the can fit comfortably. There was only a modest light violet head, which seems to be enduring. The body is dark purple and opaque, but not dull. The aroma hit is berry, but it's not sour. It's also not hoppy as would be expected from an IPA. There's a little sweetness, likely from the lactose. It drinks sweetly, with a little bite. Yet, it's not a sour bite. Could it be from some hops? This really does drink like a hybrid between a milkshake IPA and a fruited sour. The berry sweetness is up front, but that tweak during the finish seems much like the way a good unflavored ale would. It's a milkshake beer, so the richness of its body should be a given. It is and it comes completely devoid of the annoying stickiness most of the ilk include. Overall, this is a very interesting take on a Double IPA. There's plenty of berry taste, in a nice blend, almost no notice of a solid level of alcohol, a full and soft feel across the palate and a muted hop bite finish. It's absolutely worth a try.
