16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single from a local bar/bottle shop for $5.25. Canned on 10/10/22, so this is exactly 10 weeks old.
Look: Pours a nearly crystal clear light gold color. The off-white head dissipated pretty quickly to just a thin layer around the rim of the glass. The bottom of the can yielded a faint haziness.
Smell: It smells really nice. I get some dank and resinous pine notes - very earthy - along with a bit of tropical fruit (papaya), stone fruit (apricot), and citrus (grapefruit) notes. It's piney and peppery more than anything else. Green bell pepper on the finish after swirling the glass. Faint fruit punch aroma also. After pouring the bottom of the can, I am detecting a minty note that reminds me of wintergreen.
Taste: Really nice. There's a lot more complexity on the palate than what came through on the nose. What surprises me most about this beer is how ridiculously drinkable it is. Up front, it's fruity, citrusy, and piney with pleasant carbonation. It stops short of being juicy, but it does come very close to that street corner. I get some of that white grape jelly perception from the Nelson Sauvin. There's not much to say about malts in this beer because it's basically all about the hops. I guess it's like a crackery malt with perhaps a bit of crystal or caramel malt. The finish is dry and quite hoppy, however it's just moderately bitter. The hoppy and bitter finish does linger long - lots of earthy, piney notes along with a lot of pithy, rindy grapefruit.
Feel: It's medium bodied with a crisp and clean finish. The hoppy yet not overly bitter finish lingers very long. I probably wouldn't mind if there was a bit more carbonation.
Overall: This reminds me a bit of Half Acre Vallejo, which I really like, so it's not surprise that I also like this. There's just something about putting Nelson Sauvin in an American IPA (especially one that leans West Coast) that really endears me. There are parts of this beer that I like more than others as evident from my scoring. Most importantly, it tastes really good.
From Instagram:
Vent Vent (6.5%) is a DDH West Coast-style India Pale Ale brewed with El Dorado, Nelson, Amarillo, and CTZ. Clean and relatively dry with an emphasis on the juicy El Dorado and incredible Nelson Sauvin supported by a bit of pine and resin oil.
