Like all STARVE variants, STARVE: Exhibit H is a complex one-off blend that will never be replicated. Clocking in at a massive 18.5% ABV, it’s a bold, boozy sipper for sure. It’s the first time STARVE has ever been entirely a Barleywine, and it deserves a breakdown that won’t fit on the label.
- 40% is our cherished Circle of Wolves, first aged 24 months in French Cognac casks, then another 36 months in Willett bourbon barrels.
- 40% is a brand new unnamed high gravity Maris Otter Barleywine that chilled for 22 months in precious Sam Adams Utopias barrels.
- The final 20% is that same Maris Otter Barleywine, but aged 22 months in Weller bourbon barrels.
After blending those hand-selected threads in January of 2023, we filled fresh Willett barrels with the awesome blend for 16 more months of marrying and mellowing.
With portions aged over 6 years and 3 years respectively, this is an extremely well-cellared and distinctive Barleywine.

Obsidian black with next to no head but for some clear dark tan bubbles.
Its sweetness perfectly counters the bold oaks, hefty barleywine and roasty stout shit. Absolutely delicious--I wish I had more notes.
What an excellent surprise at the end of Dark Lord Day.

Drinking: Pours like a barleywine should. Rich, espresso-leather brown. Tan, tight head that retains long after the beer is poured. No soda-style dissipation. It stands on the shoulders of a giant, and is in no rush to leave. Let’s go..
Aroma: Opened at cellar temp - Around 55°. Nose immediately hits you with vanilla caramel, Tootsie Rolls and coconut. The aromas are simple, but it’s just so intense and the more you smell, the richer and more balanced it becomes.
Flavor: It’s sort of blowing my mind. I’m not sure I’ve had a better barleywine. At this high of ABV, it’s shockingly subtle. The burn is appropriate, and doesn’t overshadow the flavors. It’s all the best flavors of bourbon without the heat. Vanilla, caramelized sugar, molasses, black cherry cheesecake, oaky coconut.. it’s just so so balanced and complex. The more you sip, the more you can discover. It’s the beer equivalent of a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book. Go down a path and see where it takes you. A truly magical liquid.
