It’s been on the shelf calling to me ever since I picked it up from Ohio. On paper, it sounds like everything I like in a big drink. Poured fridge cold to a Glencairn glass. Color is dark burnt umber-ish, no noticeable turbidity. A sparkler of head last about two seconds before become some trace remnants in the surface. Aroma brings pleasant fig, caramel, apple notes. First flavor impressions are exactly what I hoped it would be: bombastic booziness that cuts through a complex layer of sweet malts and adjunct flavors. It’s massive. Practically immediate warming along with the decadent caramel, stone fruit, and apple brandy notes. The Utopias abounds. Drinks every bit as spirit-esque, with less astringency, perhaps from the nice apple notes. Mouthfeel is spot on heavy with a long lingering array of flavors. $30/500 was a steal. The extended aging really let this develop a complex profile. Overall flavor-wise, not diminishing the artistry needed to make this over four years, it has a Samichlaus similarity, which I enjoy immensely; another triple bock, one which should look into a barrel-aged version. Fantastic beverage!
