Pours a clear soft caramel brown, head seeming to dissipate fairly quickly.
Belgian yeastiness up front on the aroma, reminding me of some of Unibroue's beers. A little spicy, cloves and a touch of cinnamon, plenty of bubblegum and fruits like mango and a little peach. Lovely caramel saltiness and a touch of sourness.
Grassy, malty, a little saltiness and spice up front on the tongue. Great malt profile with a pinch of sourness and some citrus. A lactic note comes through as well. Refreshing and zesty.
Adequately carbonated and lively on the tongue. Medium body.
A very good Alberta saison.

Can: Poured a pale golden color ale with a medium size foamy head. Aroma of residual sugar notes with light dry ester is OK. Taste is a mix of residual sugar notes with some dry ester and some light rustic malt notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Lacking some attenuation and complexity but still enjoyable.

355ml can poured into tulip 3/10/16
a lots of tiny suspended particles in a golden yellow body, lots of bubbles of all sizes and speeds but they mange little for head and nothing for lace
s banana chips, peppery spice, lots of cereal, clove, even faint bubblegum, reminds me of a hefe with some saison qualities, not bad at all though
T yeast is a little more Belgian, still lots of cereal and spice, has some earthy, notes that are hard to place
M enters a little dead and foams up, slick in the mouth tries to finish dry, lots of clove and rind lingering on the finish
O not a bad first crack at the style, a little easy to drink for 6% so that says something
I've experienced some batch variance from these guys so I'll have no problems trying this stuff again down the line. I know their working out kinks and although its good beer there's some room for improvement and I hope they nail it

Pours a clear gold with minimal head. Minimal retention and just enough lacing to hug the rim. Lots of floral hops on the nose combined with some banana and bread.
A nice blend of sweet with tang of sour in the end. Definite presence of Belgian yeast, malts and sugar. The sweetness is completed with an almost sour lenghty finish. Incredibly smooth with no alcohol presence.
A really nice sessionable saison that I would love to drink again.

When I stop in to get my growlers filled, I often get a pint of Homesteader. Each time I try it, I get a different take and learn to appreciate it a bit more. It is pale, floral, and sweet smelling. I've noted faint banana, clove, and ever-so-subtle pepper notes. There is more wheat and malt than I expect from a saison, but that does not detract from the overall character of this beer. It's not my "go to", but it definitely has a place in the beer world!

It's not much to look at--very little head, sort of lacklustre colour in the glass--but I'm very much into this beer. Like the other reviewer noted, it's almost a hybrid between a saison and a dubbel or tripel--very wheaty, peppery, full of Belgian yeast. Doesn't have much of the sour twinge I associate with saisons, but it still drinks very well: again, sweet wheat, yeasty, fruity, slight citrus, some light floral hopping.
A really nice beer from a new-ish brewery who I'm really hoping can give it a go.

16oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG's inaugural Alberta Beer Week, with its exclusively Wild Rose Country tap list. Once again, beats driving to Dead Rear, I gotta say.
This beer appears a hazy, medium tarnished golden yellow colour, with one thin finger of wispy and weakly foamy dirty white head, which leaves a bit of streaky, sudsy lace around the glass as it steadily blows off.
It smells of semi-sweet, mildly sugary pale malt, slightly phenolic yeast, rather muddled pome and drupe fruit, understated rainbow peppercorn spice, and spicy, earthy, and sort of perfumed hops. The taste is bready, grainy pale malt, free-range candy sugars, zesty yeast, underripe apple and pear, bland table-top pepper mill output, and more leafy, weedy, and booze-kissed hoppiness.
The bubbles are fairly mild and innocuous in their lackadaisical frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and more or less smooth, the only sticking point perhaps an increasingly pushy estery boozy thing. It finishes drier than this camper was anticipating (fancy that), with the yeast moving in, and bringing its alcoholic roommate along for the ride.
Overall, this seems like a blend of a Saison and a Tripel, flavour-wise, but with the stated ABV of the former, and the impression of the latter. Interesting, and engaging to a point, but the persistent edginess here would preclude any sort of after work bacchanal thing for me.
