Black, creamy head.
Toasty, nutty.
Pastry without being all sugary. Vanilla and cacao blend so well and the alcohol is almost totally hidden. Can't tell hazelnuts but there's an earthy quality with a bit of sweetness.
Appropriate carbonation.

This review is for blend #1, the collaboration with Great Notion. (blend #2 was also tasted, see second half).
Draft. Dark black body, half finger mocha head, good retention, no lacing. Smell is rich chocolate and hazelnut, like a candy bar with some chocolate fudge, lactose and roast. Light earth. Flavour follows; creamy hazelnuts with milk chocolate and a dab of vanilla sweetness; this is slightly balanced out but certainly not negated by a mild roast and earthy presence. Medium-full body, good carbonation, smooth and creamy, nutty and slightly slick vanilla on the finish. Pretty damn tasty pastry stout.
Blend #2 was also tasted at the same time, side by side on draft. The main difference is that this has a ton of amaretto on the nose and palate- the almonds are pretty damn strong here, so if you can't stand amaretto, I would pass on this completely. Still, this is an interesting and tasty pastry stout that I like in 2-3 oz servings.
