Enefkay (“NFK") is our tribute to the city we call home: Norfolk, VA. Our India Pale Lager is a smooth, satisfying Lager with the hop forward flavor of a juicy American IPA, but with drinkability of a Pilsner. Hallertau Blanc & Cascade hops lend a harmonious blend of Citrus and Tropical fruit character to both the aroma & flavor.

A: Pours a clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and faint copper + amber +burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy bright white head that slowly reduces to a couple of small to medium sized patches of thick film surrounded by a large patch very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of toasted + cereal grain + caramel malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness and just shy of moderate aromas of herbal + citrus/grapefruit + citrus/lemon zest hops.
T: Upfront there are just shy of moderate flavors of toasted + cereal grain + caramel malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of herbal + citrus/grapefruit + citrus/lemon zest hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which lingers for a moderate amount of time.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp upfront with a hint of dryness in the finish.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and relatively enjoyable. I would have another of these beers but nothing about it stands out and makes me want to seek it out again.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left lots of lacing on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of floral hops are preset in the nose along with notes of caramel malts.
T: The taste follows the smell, having watered down flavors of caramel malts along with hints of fruity hops.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer tastes like it would be classified as an old school Imperial Pale Lager if there was such a style as it is malty without having much in the way of underlying hops other than enough to mask any malty sweetness.

12oz can, canned on 04/02/18, served in a tumbler glass. Described as an "India Pale Lager" at 5.2% ABV.
Appearance: Mostly clear with just a bit of chill haze and a dark gold color. Thin off white head with some islands of persistent lacing.
Smell: Light citrus and tropical fruit aroma. Described as having Hallertau Blanc and Cascade hops - I'm only detecting the Cascade.
Taste: Citrus rind and pine, cracker-like/pilsner malt, bitter finish. While the label said this had Hallertau hops in it, the Cascade dominates and there is no noble hop flavor at all that I can detect.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, a little thin, but it does have some lager-like crispness to it.
Overall / Drinkability: An okay beer. This comes across more as an APA than a lager, and with a different ABV than what is listed on this beer listing, I suspect the brewer is tweaking the recipe. I think I need to pair this with food, and since I have another one, I think I'll do that and see if it pairs better. By itself, it's a bit too bitter for a lager and not clean/crisp enough for a lager.

Somewhat hazy amber color with white head that quickly dissipates. A little hop in the aroma, some roasted malt, but not a lot there. Bitter roasted earthy taste, overpowering the hops. Light to medium body. Bitterness lingers a while in the aftertaste.

Lighter gold, semi-cloudy in appearance with decent carbonation and about a half finger of frothy head. Aromas of citrus, hop bitterness and grains/malts. Fairly clean finish with a light lingering bitterness and citrus.

From the bottom of the can: "03/14/2017 THE PEOPLES BEER"
Appearance: The body of the beer is a hazy medium shade of amber and orange. The head is a fluffy white cloud that leaves great lacing and has great retention. The beer is too hazy to see though. It is light but completely opaque. Despite this the beer still looks great in the glass.
Aroma: I get a very light spicy and tobacco-like aroma. Nothing else comes through. It is lower on the aroma totem pole than many lagers that aren't even regarded as "hoppy."
Taste: That tobacco flavor comes through strongly at first sip. It has a very deep and earthy flavor with small accompaniments of coffee and tea flavors. Oddly the beer advertises itself with the "hop forward flavor of a juicy American IPA" however it tastes the complete opposite. In spite of this claim the beer tastes really good. It is unique; it is different. After a while the beer picks up a bit of spice which expands the flavor profile.
Mouthfeel: It feels a bit wet and on the lighter side of medium-bodied with a good bitterness and a bit of a raspy character.
Overall: It's a nice and enjoyable beer. I don't think I would put it at the top of any list but it has a lot of great earthy flavors. These earthy flavors really make the beer stand out from the crowd. For this reason I would recommend at least trying the beer. I would drink it again.

Officially listed at brewery as an IPL.
Clear, golden body with two finger head and a lace ring down the glass. Aroma has touches of caramel malt but a grainy hoppiness one expects from an IPL. The hops give off a dry, citric taste with hints of lemon (they're that citric and bitter) and this balances with both a lager graininess and caramel malt sweetness. I am not a fan of these new IPLs (man, I sound old stating that) but this one seems to balance everything without muddling the beer, especially the hop and malt profiles.
