Coelacanth Brewing "Hippocampus"
$3/5 oz. on tap at the brewery on 17 June 2017
Notes: "Mild Pepper Blonde Ale, 5.3% ABV". Slightly hazy golden body beneath a bright white head that displays average head retention and OK lacing. In the aroma the pepper comes through over the malt. It's not black pepper, but something like Ancho, Pasilla, or Guajillo. It's a nice blend with the malt. It's not very bitter but that's not needed as the spice lingers in the finish, and it's fairly hot but far from burning. Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation so as not to amplify the spiciness. Well done!

Poured a clear golden body with two finger head and lace. Aroma is peppery spiced and grainy with bits of bitter hops. Pleasant, light bodied beer with minimal hop bitterness that has an undercurrent of sweetness from minor sweet malts that balances with a crisp, spicy peppery finish.
