You’re well aware Germany is famous for lagers, this less common Dunkel (German for “dark”) style originated in the Bavarian city of Munich over 500 years ago. Smooth malt sweetness, rich and hearty, bready, toasty, with low bitterness and a soft finish. Dark appearance but deceptively light-bodied and refreshing. Great stuff. A brewers’ favorite this time of year.

Poured from a crowler, canned 5/28
On the pour the head is lacking, but I'm unsure if the resealable twist cap crowler contributed to that or not. The beer itself has pretty light but visible carbonation, and the body is a very dark amber/dark caramel reddish brown. No haze, and apart from the head, honestly quite attractive.
Aroma is quite reserved on this one with dark malt right at the forefront with light hopping bringing some earthy bitter notes, similar to dark chocolate when combined with the dark malts. Otherwise quite a smooth and not all that pronounced scent.
On the sip it brings a good amount of flavor and again brings a nice semisweet dark chocolate vibe with the malts mixing with the bittering hops. No American fruit or dank hop vibes, which is true to style but a bit more bitter than dome Dunkels I've had, but it plays nice with the malts. On the front of the sip it carries some lager crispness and is quite easy to put down and almost refreshing. Good flavor.
Feel is better than the appearance would imply a nice richness is brought by the malts that is balanced by the aforementioned crispness brought by layering. Big but only moderately so making it a good dark beer for anytime of year.
Overall a good chocolatey interpretation of a Munich Dunkel. Not a lot of head from the crowler but a good beer none the less. No off flavors and pretty true to style with a slight twist.
