Served in a snifter
This beer pours a really deep brown. It is topped with a fleeting tan head that leaves no lace.
The cognac is there. I get brown sugar, molasses, caramelized sugar, and some fig from the base barleywine.
Cognac is upfront. I love it. It kind of hides some of the barleywine aspects that I smelled. I get some underlying caramelized sugar and fig. The cognac is the star of the show here, and I am just fine with that. As it warms the underlying flavors come forward.
Full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel
I love cognac. I love barleywines. I was excited to see a cognac barrel aged version of a nearly extinct beer style. It was well done and appreciated by this fella. This is my first Devil's Kettle beer. I hope to try more after the apocalypse.
