slightly stronger foeder saison here, my first from these guys, what an epic space they have, super diverse beer menu too, highly recommended, a great session with the boys here! this one pours a little maltier looking than expected, although i guess with the abv i should have seen it coming, rusty orange toned beer without the tall head i tend to look for in the style, it looks a little stiller than it should for me, but has some shine and looks alright in the glass. the nose is a little muted to me, sort of vinous but not real interesting on the ferment and a little heavy from the barley, it seems a little caramelized and dense, not delicate and bright like i generally want in these, and without the intriguing ferment i expected from the wood ageing, although the oak is there. the flavor is about the same, a little more generic maltiness than i need here, and although cool with the sweet oak, it could stand to dry out some, funk up a bit, and evolve a bit more. its got some belgian type esters to it, a little mid palate spiciness, and some vinous tang toward the back end, but it seems to me to need a little more time to come into its own. its not bad, but it didnt strike me as unique or impressive either. the alcohol doesnt add anything for me either, they could lighten this up a tad and improve it i think. decent evening sipper though, it has some complexity to it, and it warms up fine. id love to see this sit on some brett awhile...
