Soft. Dry. Pillowy. Fruity. This farmhouse ale was fermented slowly over six months with a mix of our farmhouse culture and select Belgian style yeast strains for a balanced level of funk. The fruity hibiscus adds layers of red berries, tropical flowers, and a promise of warmer days to come.

Aroma is spices, mild bubblegum and medium sweetness. The flavor is tropical fruit/hibiscus, malts, spices and a mild/medium sweet/slightly tart finish.

Hibiscus just has a way of evoking a world of whimsy to any beer drinking session. It's floral and fruity character pairs perfectly with the spicy farmhouse ales of Belgium. And that must be the keen thinking that Central State brewers have when turning to their field and fauna saison.
With a pale pink haze, Butterfly Kisses pours with a spritzy froth that dissipates quickly but not before flooding the nose with a flowery bouquet of rose, meadow and a pleasant funk-filled perfume of burlap and weathered fruit peels. Early sweetness is mild with honeysuckle, light agave and bread dough.
The true nature of saison plays out across the middle palate as the estery fruits of strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb, lime, grape, pear and cranberry pull from the floral spice and head toward a spicy balance of weathered woods, white pepper, cumin and vinous spice. A spicy bitterness then follows from the hop front which displays a grassy, peppery and herbal bite with a mild tannic astringency.
Medium bodied and creamy to start, the ale finishes dully dry with a short span of watering textures between. The slightly winey character of the ale makes the beer a fan friendly taste while the tartness begs for full-on sourness and the beer misses the mark slightly on the classic dryness, spice forward demeanor of true saison.

Welcome back to my New Hoosier Daddy Beer Sunday (Week 738)! I am rebooting with a CAN from IndiCANa, courtesy of both @AyatollahGold & @jkblr both of whom have recently hooked me up, Hoosier style. It will be a CANner, not banner, day for The CANQuest (tm)!
What?!? How am I the first to review/rate this?!? I got the photo cred, but I feel guilty for usurping someone else's Add.
From the CAN: "Farmhouse Ale w/ Hibiscus Flower"; "Soft. Dry. Pillowy. Fruity. This farmhouse ale was fermented slowly over six months with a mix of our farmhouse culture and select Belgian style yeast strains for a balanced level of funk. The fruity hibiscus adds layers of red berries, tropical flowers, and a promise of warmer days to come."
Additional Data:
Malt Bill: Indiana Pilsner, Wheat Hops: Hallertau Blanc Yeast: Belgian Yeast Strains, CSB House Yeast Blend Serving Temperature: 45-50 Glassware: Tulip, snifter, or stange
The Crack! unleashed the beer from Hell as it immediately began foaming & frothing through the vent! & the blood red color did nothing to assuage my CANxiety. Once the dust settled & order was restored from the chaos, I proceeded with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. I was a little surprised that although it CANtinued to froth & foam, it had lousy retention, quickly falling away to wisps & nothingness! 8=( Color was the cloudy equivalent of freshly-squeezed Ruby Red grapefruit juice (SRM = N/A). Nose had a moderate funkiness CANbined with a flowery perfuminess. It was like being in a florist shop where the bouquets were a few days old and beginning to wilt & decay. Mouthfeel was kind of thin & watery, but about on par for the style. Fair dinkum. The taste was flowery and funky, but not overdone, thankfully. I am not going to lie and say that I tasted red berries, but I definitely got a floweriness. Finish was semi-dry and actually quite refreshing. Saisons are not my style of choice, but I have had other beers from Central State Brewing & I am always impressed by what they are producing. This beer was no different. YMMV.
