650ml bottle poured into an imperial pint glass.
It pours crude black in color with thick creamy tan head that well retains itself with very good retention before slowly subsiding to a long-lasting foamy crown and leaving some lacing patch and spot on the glass-side.
Mildly smoked in the aroma, it is reminiscent of peat, burnt wood, and fire with some but not much meaty or barbeque-like. There is an obvious evidence of roasted malt together with coffee and dark chocolate. Dark bread too with some sweet caramel and light vanilla.
Roasted and smoked flavors lead and cover through the palate sensation, they remind me of peat, fire, burnt wood, and charred biscuit, together with coffee that is a little bit sour, dark chocolate, and dark bread. Bitterness is at the end deriving from roasted and toasted profile. Overall, it is tasty and good quaffing.
Rather light body with quite smooth mouthfeel and some watery touch through the palate, the feeling is crisp with lively carbonation. Finish is dry.
It is quite balance between smoky character against roasted, coffee, and chocolate being not too smoky and not too light, very drinkable.

On tap at the brewery, Vancouver.
Ruby black with tan crust that webs. 4
Oily smoke (slight phenols), with some date underneath. 4
Sweet roast, hot dogs, red apple, slight roasty cut, and wood hops. 3.75
Leafy finish and vague mint linger.
Almost medium, smooth, clean. 3.75
Magnum and Fuggles.
Sweet and smoky, with the roast to the rear. That stale wood Fuggles thing kinda taints it though. Nice balance, overall. 4
